Pinocchio felt a longing deep within him. Someday, he would become a real girl and live a life beyond the confines of make-believe. Animating directly on film stock, the renowned American experimenter updates and strongly condenses the famous story.

A journey around an abandoned grain silo outside the animator’s studio. In this non-narrative essay, the author works with real-life footage and with her favourite material – film stock. It is her way of showing admiration of the simple yet significant construction. She personifies it in detail and the soundtrack hints at its historical context.

The viewers may remember Gina Kamentsky, who focuses on animating directly on the found footage, from last year’s Anifilm. Her new film If You Say Something, See Something draws along the same lines as last year’s Jiro Visits the Dentist – it is once again a playful, lively and inventive film combining abstract and concrete shapes.

Jiro has very strange dreams for example about The Artist formerly known as Prince. Together with his friend the lighthouse=phone man, Jiro visits the dentist. A brief but effective film follows the traditional principles of experimental films. It is hand drawn on 1997 frames of 35mm film stock.
